The City of Atlantis has over 10 miles of streets with 46.8% devoted to residential, 10.2% to commercial/office and 43% to recreation and nature. The JFK Medical Center is located in Atlantis and is the primary commercial industry in the City.


The City of Atlantis comprises 834 acres and was formerly known as Mulberry Farms and was owned by Florida State Senator Philip D. Lewis, who formed the Mission Company to raise Bahman cattle.  In 1958, Nathan Hunt and Paul Kintz purchased this ranch and the remaining two parcels along Lantana Road.  With Engineers Brockway, Weber and Brockway, and Designer Ernest L. Green, they set out to develop what is known as one of the most beautiful country club communities in the United States.


Early development through 1961 established the Atlantis Inn and Golf Clubhouse, along with its first 18-hole golf course.


The city was granted its charter on June 19, 1959 and the first Council was appointed with Mayor James Kintz, Vice Mayor Nathan Hunt and Councilmen Paul Kintz, Marjorie Hunt and William Blakeslee.
